Y is for Yellow by India Arie

A-Z Banner

Daffodils, sunflowers, and yellow roses were planted in Yesenia’s yard.

Yellow was her calming color.

She lived in turmoil inside her head. When the medicines didn’t work a bouquet of yellow flowers calmed her.

They calmed her, because yellow was connected to the memory of her mother. She loved her mama. Her mother gave her lemon drops on bad days and lemonade on hot summer days.

When she laid in her mother’s bed it smelled lemony fresh.

Her mama was gone now, but she still had yellow.

A-Z Banner

Dear X-Girlfriend,

I’m sorry to break up with you this way, but it’s time for me to move on. I’ve read about the reason, season, and lifetime and I was a season. It’s time for me to go.

I’m sorry.

Dear X,

While you took the time to write me, I had already sense the change of the wind and changed direction. Your best friend is a lifetime and I truly didn’t think to take the time to say it’s over.

I’m not sorry.

W is for When Will I See You Smile Again? by Bell Biv DeVoe

A-Z Banner

Inside a small coffee shop, in a not so important town, Willis sat watching the raindrops fall unapologetically on the other tourists.

The shop was filling up quickly with people looking for shelter.

She walked in.

He had been watching her through the window. She splashed the puddles like a small child. Her watched her laugh.

However, when a gust of wind stole her umbrella, her smiled faded and she too took shelter.

He wondered when will I see you smile again?

V is for Vogue by Madonna

Little Victoria invaded her mother’s closet. She liked the silky scarves, designer shades, and spiked high-heels that cause her to wobble like a baby taking her first steps. Her attire was completed with the two strands of pearls.

She would stand in front of the floor length mirror and strike a pose. She was practicing for the day she would have a chance to be in Vogue.

She knew early on she would be a model.

She was a nature showstopper.

U is for Umbrella by Rihanna

He was a watcher. He sat in an inconspicuous section of the promenade, watching the movements of everyone. He fed his muse with ideas of what to write by observing unconscious actions of others.

When he felt as though someone was watching, he would pull out his umbrella and hide. The rainbow-striped nylon was his cocoon that shielded him from prying eyes.

“Don’t watch me,” he said. “You can’t see me. I am the watcher and you’re the muse.”

T is for The Thrill is Gone by B.B. King

My last post I was over 3 words. For this one, I’m under by 1. I can barely believe it. 🙂

The long lines in the hot sun were the worst part. However, Joan loved the rush of the roller coasters at all the amusement parks. A great time because the entire family was there.

Over the years, people grew up and their lives were busy. The fun has dwindled away.

Now an elderly Joan sits on her porch, close to the amusement park, listening to the screams of terror and enjoyment. For her, the thrill is not gone.

I cut this down from 110 words. I’m still 3 words over.

“Dillion,” Nia yelled before he got through the door. “You have some explaining to do.” She crossed her arms. “I can’t believe you.”

He stood there staring at her.

“Shana saw you. Are you going to deny it?”

“No.”

“You were with another woman. What were you doing? Who were you with and why?”

He thought about going through with his plans.

“Say something,” she demanded with a stomp of her feet.

“I wanted to marry you, but now I’m not sure.”

R is for Ribbon in the Sky by Stevie Wonder

Every Saturday, Renee would take her children to go to the park. She wanted them to experience the outdoors and what natural beauty God created for all to admire.

Joy, Renee’s five your old, noticed everything. She would see things others couldn’t.

One day Joy laid on her back, looking up at the sky. She watched the clouds closely.

“Mama,” she said, “Can you see them?”

“See what, baby?”

Joy pointed. “The ribbons in the sky. What does it mean?”

“God’s guiding someone.”

Q is for Quit Playing Games (With My Heart) by Backstreet Boys

“Quit playing games with my heart,” Quinn told Mike. “One day I’m all you need and the next I’m replaceable.”

Mike was battling with his emotions. He’d been feeling some kind of way that he really couldn’t describe. Explaining it to anyone would mean he’d have to admit it to himself and he wasn’t there yet.

“I’m not trying to hurt you,” he said. “I’m trying to- I’m not sure.”

“Go find yourself, because I’m not disposable. I’m to be loved.”

P is for Pretty Hurts by Beyonce

Starched suits.

Flawless make-up.

A job.

Return to a lonely house day-in and day-out.

A wet washcloth used to wipe away the make-up, the sweat and dry from your flawless skin.

No husband, no children…no one to spend a second with.

The most important thing to you was always how you looked and what others thought of you. The only thing, no one was ever good enough for you.

Pretty hurts- it kept you alone. Now you’re old.

Even though I enjoy the Beyonce version, I really like this cover by Chloe and Halle Bailey.
