H is for Home by Stephanie Mills

A-Z BannerThis is what happens when Dorothy finds out the wizard was a liar and she is stuck in Oz.

“I’m sorry,” said the wizard, “I’m a fake.”

A stunned Dorothy asked, “You mean I’m never going home?”

“Well, I-“

“If I can’t go home I’m going to make your life a living nightmare.” Dorothy pulled from her basket a pearl handle .45.

The wizard raised his hands. “Whoa! I’m sure we can figure something out.”

“You have until morning to get me home,” said Dorothy. “After that, I begin shooting body parts and you will want me to be gone.”

Did Dorothy acquire the gun In Kansas or after she blew into Oz? Desperate times make people do desperate things, like Dorothy did. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Dorothy already had it when she was in Kansas.

I like the 79 words thing. Seems like an oddly random number to choose, but I like that it forces you to be compact with your story. I imagine you generate a lot of great starts from this approach. Elle @ Erratic Project Junkie

The 79 came from a contest I entered a year or so ago. The story had to be 79 words. I became obsessed with writing them and haven’t stopped. It forces me to get to the point. And yes many great starts have come from this.

what Kim said! And I like challenges such as your 79 words. It is a great way to make your point concisely! jean http://prettykittydogmoonjewelry.blogspot.com/
